We ended a frustrating week on an upbeat note on Saturday as Miranda excelled in victory in the Grade 2 Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle at Doncaster.

With meetings off all around the country over the preceding days and Cheltenham‘s Trials day among the casualties it was a relief to be sending runners to Yorkshire.
Miranda is better than ever this season and put up a career best in beating Floressa comfortably on soft ground that suits her so well. As she is still improving I might look at the Kingwell Hurdle for her at Wincanton while another option is a £75,000 two mile handicap hurdle at Kelso on March 6th.
I was hopeful of a decent run from Give Me A Copper in the Skybet Chase but he was on the back foot after a mistake at halfway and was eventually pulled up.
With doubts about several race meetings this week and more rain to come we may not be too busy until the weekend when we will be sending a strong team as usual to Musselburgh on Saturday and Sunday. We will also field runners at Sandown including Hitman in the Scilly Isles Chase and Dolos in the two mile handicap Chase he has won for the last two years.
In addition I’ve pencilled in Southfield Harvest for the valuable long distance handicap hurdle won by Topofthegame in 2018.
Among those likely to be on the lorry for Scotland for Saturday are Getaway Trump (Frodon Novice Chase), Shantou Flyer (Edinburgh National), Cut The Mustard or Rockadenn (Scottish Champion Chase) and either Thyme White or Christopher Wood in the Scottish Champion Hurdle.
On Sunday I might run a couple in the novice hurdle, a nice four year old Wise Glory in the Scottish Triumph Hurdle and Threeunderthrufive is an intended starter in the staying novice hurdle.
The horses are in great form at home after their mid winter flu vaccinations early in January and we are ready to kick on now for the final three months of the campaign.
There is so much to look forward to starting this weekend and then moving on to Newbury’s Betfair meeting a week later when Clan Des Obeaux runs in the Denman Chase and Greaneteen runs in the Game Spirit Chase.
What we really need now is an improvement in the weather to allow saturated racecourses to dry out.
