We had a great time first thing this morning schooling 25 horses on our all weather loop beside the bottom gallop at Ditcheat.

They go left handed for four laps, pull up then do another four circuits right handed.

The horses clearly enjoy the Martin Collins surface, love jumping round there and couldn’t be in better shape.
But some of them don’t appreciate running on the extremely testing going that prevails at most racecourses at the moment so with the ground as deep as I can remember at this time of year we are a little bit quieter than usual.

I was very pleased with both Eritage and Wild Max at Taunton on Thursday. Eritage ran into a good one when failing to give 7lbs to Masters Legacy in the first division of the novice hurdle but he behaved impeccably, jumped brilliantly and is one to look forward to in the spring.

Wild Max then won the second division in a time eighteen seconds slower than the first. He is a smart prospect who might go to the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown.

On Saturday both Brelan D’As and Secret Investor finished out of the money in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup. Secret Investor travelled very well and was bang there three out before struggling late on in conditions that he can’t handle and a mistake three out put paid to the chances of Brelan D’As.
I’d expect them both to bounce back later in the season.

This weekend we will be busy at Ascot with Black Corton and Give Me A Copper on course for the Silver Cup while Tamaroc Du Mathan and Scaramanga are likely to go for the valuable Betfair Exchange Hurdle.

A day earlier Mont Des Avaloirs is set to run in the two mile, five furlong novice Chase, Bravemansgame goes in the bumper, McFabulous might run in the maiden hurdle and Calva D‘Auge is a possible for the Kennel Gate Hurdle.

With many racing enthusiasts already looking ahead to the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day I could not be happier with our duo Cyrname and Clan Des Obeaux.

If Harry Cobden picks Cyrname then Sam Twiston-Davies will ride Clan. But if Harry chooses last year’s winner Clan then Sean Bowen will partner Cyrname.
